Buteyko Breathing – Discussion & Practical

This is an afternoon workshop led by Gray Caw

This workshop will give you a simple practice to improve everyday breathing that can have a profound effect on every system of the body.

You’ll learn the importance of functional breathing in terms of both physical and mental health.

You’ll gain an insight into the science behind the biomechanics, biochemistry, and psychophysiological aspects of breathing.

Developed in 1952 by Ukrainian Dr Konstantin Buteyko, the Buteyko Method is a breathing technique designed to improve functional breathing patterns. While breathing is an involuntary activity, it is subject to change by the stresses of everyday life – processed foods, excessive sitting and talking, lifestyle choices and environmental factors.

The baseline of functional breathing involves breathing in and out through the nose. The breath is light, regular, effortless with the primary movement from the diaphragm.

The Buteyko Method has been shown to be successful in helping improve a number of breathing related problems such as asthma, breathlessness, stress, anxiety, and sleeping disorders.
