Inside the Head of Fibromyalgia – Discussion

This is an afternoon workshop led by Chris Newton

The understanding of Fibromyalgia as a diagnosis in the medical community has begun to generate real traction over the past couple of years. This means that more and more people are walking away from their GP or Rheumatologist with this as a reason for their pain and fatigue. The trouble is, Fibromyalgia is a ‘syndrome’ diagnosis. Meaning there is no known pathology and no real solution offered by medicine. The result being, more and more people will be seeking alternative care for his condition.

In this presentation we will discuss the many symptoms of FMS and rationalise why these may be manifesting. We will look at why it is so important to choose the language you use, the environment you treat in and manage the external influences that the client is exposed to daily. Massage itself has below average results for these individuals, so we need to understand why this is and make adjustments to our treatment plans accordingly. Our hope, by the end of this session, will be that you understand your full impact on the Fibromyalgia patient.
